Nutritional status impacts all aspects of a patient’s ability to heal. Biological detoxification depends heavily on nutritional support, as does periodontal therapy or any wound healing. While SAABP does not expect dentists to become nutritional therapists themselves, an appreciation of the impact of nutrition on all phases of dentistry is essential to biological dentistry. Thus, it is helpful for dentists to be familiar with the methods and challenges of reducing systemic toxicity deriving from mercury exposure; the importance of heavy metal detoxification using prescribed supplements and nutritional guidelines.

A detoxing preparation must involve the priming of the liver, kidneys, gut and the cell for optimal functioning, thus allowing for successful detoxification with the least possible Herxheimer reactions.

Ideally this should be initiated 2 – 4 weeks before amalgam extraction takes place. The diet and lifestyle choices need to support the detoxification process. This course provides all the tools to help you achieve optimal heavy metal detoxification.
